NORWAY: New Rules for Residence Permit Holders Changing Employers

March 31, 2017

With immediate effect, residence permit holders who are skilled workers with an employer in Norway can now change employers without having to apply for a new residence permit, even if the name of their employer is written on the residence card, provided they work in the same type of position as before.

What has changed?

Previously, a holder of a residence permit as a skilled worker with an employer in Norway who wanted to change employers had to apply for a new residence permit if the name of their employer was written on the residence card.

If the residence permit was not connected to a particular employer, the holder could change jobs without first having to obtain a new residence permit.

Now everyone who has a residence permit as a skilled worker with an employer in Norway can change employers without applying for a new residence permit, provided they work in the same type of position as before.
